The Scrum Master is accountable for ensuring the Product Owner and scrum team maximize the business value of our products. This role is responsible for ensuring the team lives agile values and principles and follows the processes and practices that the team agreed they would use for continuous development and delivery of products and solutions.

Working with a talented team of functional/technical experts, the Scrum Master is a key proponent and coach of Agile practices and values, using these to help drive forward the program of digital transformation that empowers Pfizer’s customer-oriented vision.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate agile initiatives from initiation through release; ensure timely delivery of committed work; manage sprint velocity-related metrics
• Act as a translator and conduit between Product and Engineering teams to ensure proper translation of user stories into granular tasks ready for development
• Navigate and identify shared IT services required by the team in the delivery of its objectives
• Facilitate discussions leading to collective decision-making, goal setting and conflict resolution within the team
• Actively manage risks and external dependencies drawing in team members as appropriate
• Continuously seek to improve team performance by promoting joint accountability for results and solving productivity issues
• Plan scrum implementations effectively, ensuring that goals, scope, and product domain are understood by everyone on the Scrum Team.
• Organize and facilitate agile activities and ceremonies including daily stand-up meetings, sprint reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, and product backlog refinement sessions.
• Collaborate closely with the Product Owner to manage the backlog.
• Understand the project’s functional/technical requirements and provide leadership to the functional/technical teams, helping them to solve some of the more complex challenges and engendering a collaborative, knowledge sharing environment.
• Ensure the effective execution of user story estimation and forecasting.
• Champion and facilitate adoption of agile standards, tools, and best practices
• Help the team embrace agile core values and adopt and apply those principles and implementation practices
• Coach the team to improve collaboration and self-management, promoting healthy interactions both within the team and with external stakeholders.
• Proactively identify and resolve impediments.
• Manage the escalation process for critical issues through resolution.
• Ensure that all meetings are positive and productive, stay on topic, and are kept within the timebox.
• Capture defined organizational metrics to identify areas of opportunity and work with team to continuously improve.
• Represent the team at broader planning and coordination sessions (e.g., Scrum of Scrums). Owns team JIRA board and reporting responsibilities.
• Support the team in using agile planning and development tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Miro).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Science degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Technology Management or relevant disciplines
• 5+ years of experience including 3 years of experience as a scrum master or a similar position, working with functional/technical teams of contract or colleague resources
• Prior experience in successfully delivered technical projects with experience in software development and/or project management
• Qualified as a Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
• Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, concepts and theories of agile disciplines (i.e. scrum, Kanban), and good understanding/knowledge of principles and concepts of other disciplines. Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems
• Ability to operate independently in ambiguous situations
• Ability to make decisions guided by policies in non-standard situations
• Excellent skills in planning, analysis, oral and written communication, consensus building, facilitation, negotiation, and the ability to readily learn a new business area.
• Able to work effectively with dispersed, remote and global teams when needed.
• Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
