Our client is a software product company with a wide range of product lines from industrial power and climate controllers to e‑sports platforms.
The company develops and markets new releases of the OpenVMS operating system, accompanying tools and applications (including open source) and developer tools to keep our customers’ OpenVMS environments up to date.
They are currently migrating the entire OpenVMS ecosystem to the industry standard x86_64 architecture to help customers protect their investment in OpenVMS infrastructure, especially in virtualized environments and in the cloud.
Their team in Greece will help other VMS Software teams around to globe on enabling OpenVMS to run in most popular hypervisors and public clouds; filling the gaps in the OpenVMS software portfolio and modernizing the OS to support modern IT practices. It will be part of their global team, sharing their corporate culture and values: teamwork, best development practices, modern and convenient workplace, and wellness benefits.
They would like to investigate and implement the following functionality:
- open-vm-tools is a set of services and modules that enable several features in VMware products for better management of, and seamless user interactions with, guests. Same services and modules must be available for OpenVMS to improve its compatibility with VMWare hypervisors.
We need to investigate the possibility of porting the open-vm-tools product to OpenVMS. - Paravirtual drivers improve the performance of the guest operating system by enabling high performance throughput of I/O operations. All popular hypervisors take advantage of paravirtual drivers.
- OpenVMS must support deployment to most popular public cloud solutions (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure etc.) We need to develop OS tools that support, and leverage deployment and orchestration services provided by the cloud provider.
Experience
- 3+ years of C/C++
- Linux development
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies and virtual machines is a plus
- Knowledge of major public cloud providers: AWS, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud
- Knowledge of CI/CD principles
- Experience with the Agile methodology
- Knowledge of the Atlassian stack (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence)
- Writing English skills are a must, spoken English skills are a plus
