Case Study: A Cybersecurity Awareness eLearning Experience for the Retail Sector

A Collaborative Initiative by METRO and Code.Hub

Executive Summary 

In an era of escalating digital threats, METRO partnered with Code.Hub to design and develop a customized Cybersecurity Awareness eLearning program for its workforce. This initiative was built around a microlearning framework, utilizing short-form, scenario-based learning experiences, tailored to the day-to-day realities of the retail sector. 

By focusing on practical relevance and learner engagement, the program helped transform cybersecurity training into a more engaging and operationally aligned learning experience across the organization.

The Project Objective 

The objective was to establish practical and secure, everyday digital habits for a diverse and distributed workforce. METRO required a solution that was engaging, easy to consume and integrated into the professional routine of its people. The program needed to deliver cybersecurity awareness in a way that felt relevant and accessible to employees with varying levels of technical familiarity.

The Code.Hub Solution: Customized eLearning Experience Design Code.Hub designed a customized eLearning experience centered on the principles of Microlearning and scenario-based learning methodologies. The program was structured to deliver specialized knowledge in digestible formats:

  • 20 Targeted Microlearning Modules: Each lesson focused on a specific cybersecurity topic, ensuring the content is clear and easy to retain.
  • 5 Practical Scenarios: These interactive modules placed the learners in realistic, retail-specific situations, requiring them to make informed cybersecurity decisions in real-time, reinforcing the application of secure digital behaviors in everyday workplace situations.
  • Accessible Technical Language: By stripping away advanced technical jargon, the content remained clear, relevant and accessible for all staff members, regardless of their technical familiarity.

Project Outcomes The program successfully delivered cybersecurity awareness training to 1970 employees through a scalable and accessible digital learning experience tailored to the retail environment. Beyond the initial rollout, the modules continue to be available through the organization’s LMS digital library, extending the reach and long-term value.

By combining short-form learning with realistic workplace scenarios, the initiative enabled employees to complete training more flexibly within the flow of their daily responsibilities, while reinforcing practical and security-conscious digital behaviors across the organization.
