At A Glance

We are seeking an experienced Senior QA Automation Engineer to drive quality engineering across our client’s mission-critical C4I ecosystem. The ecosystem spans an Android mobile application built in React Native, an Electron desktop application, and web clients that exchange data in real time. The ideal candidate will design and build a unified, TypeScript-based test automation strategy from the ground up. They will use Appium for our client’s mobile device farm and Playwright for web and desktop. This role is responsible for test architecture, CI/CD quality gates, release confidence, and mentoring junior team members. Minimum Years of Experience: 5

Key Responsibilities

  • Test Strategy & Architecture: Define and own the end-to-end test strategy and automation architecture across mobile, desktop, and web. Balance unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage so that tests are fast, reliable, and maintainable.
  • Mobile Test Automation: Design and maintain the Appium-based automation framework for our Android React Native application. Manage execution on our in-house mobile device farm, including device provisioning, parallel runs, and stability across device models and OS versions.
  • Desktop & Web Test Automation: Build and maintain Playwright-based automation for our Electron desktop application and web clients. Cover multi-window flows and native integrations (menus, tray, notifications, file dialogs), using Electron main-process access or Appium desktop drivers where browser automation does not reach.
  • Cross-Platform & Interoperability Testing: Design end-to-end scenarios that span mobile, desktop, and web clients, validating real-time data flow (e.g. WebSocket), synchronisation, and integration with Health SDKs and wearable devices.
  • Reliability & Resilience Testing: Define test approaches for the operational requirements of continuity of functions and zero data loss. This includes offline and degraded-network scenarios, reconnection, recovery after failure, and data integrity checks.
  • CI/CD Quality Gates: Integrate automated suites into the CI/CD pipeline, defining which tests gate each stage. Own test reporting, flaky-test management, and execution time, so the team gets fast, trustworthy feedback on every change.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Mentor mid-level and junior QA engineers, conduct test code reviews, and set coding standards for test automation. Work with developers to build testability into the product, such as stable test IDs and test hooks.
  • Quality Advocacy & Reporting: Report on quality metrics, release readiness, and risk to technical and non-technical stakeholders, and drive defect triage and root-cause analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 5 years in software quality engineering or test automation, including at least 3 years building and maintaining test automation frameworks.
  • Programming: Strong, demonstrable expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript and writing maintainable, well-structured test code, including design patterns such as the Page Object Model.
  • Mobile Automation: Hands-on experience building Appium test frameworks for Android, ideally for React Native applications, and running suites on real devices or device farms.
  • Web & Desktop Automation: Strong experience with Playwright (preferred) or Selenium/WebdriverIO for web testing. Experience testing Electron applications is highly preferred.
  • CI/CD: Proven experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, including parallel execution, test reporting, and managing flaky tests.
  • Test Strategy: Proven ability to design a test strategy from scratch and balance the test pyramid, not only to write tests.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to explain quality risks and testing decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Native Desktop Automation: Experience with Appium Windows or Mac2 drivers for testing native OS interactions outside the application window.
  • Security Testing: Awareness of mobile and application security testing practices, such as OWASP MASVS and data-at-rest and in-transit encryption checks.
  • Domain Experience: Experience testing high-reliability, safety-critical, or defence/C4I systems, or applications that integrate with wearables and health SDKs.
